Do you want to know how to get married without religious conversion?

Dhanak does not help couples who wish to have a religious conversion for the sake of marriage. Dhanak provides support to couples who opt for a court marriage. The Special Marriage Act allows two people to marry without having to change their religious identity. Find out details by contacting us.

What We Do

Support To Aspiring Couples

  • Providing socio-legal counseling to adults and couples aspiring for marriage or partnership.
  • Offering mental health counseling for survivors facing emotional challenges due to their marriage or relationships.
  • Capacity-building programs for women survivors who lost education or skills in emergency situations.
  • Providing financial support to individuals or couples in need.
  • Offering continuous support to survivor individuals/couples facing social isolation.

Services to Couples in Need

  • Assisting in the marriage registration and solemnization process under the Special Marriage Act.
  • Providing protection and legal aid to prevent Honour-Based Crimes.
  • Facilitating the couple’s appearance before the Special Cell for safety measures under the Deputy Commissioner of Police/Superintendent of Police.
  • Connecting individuals with support groups for essential help and counseling.
  • Organizing support groups for mutual sharing and learning.
  • Offering solidarity support to individuals/couples in need.
  • Providing volunteering opportunities for community involvement.

Support to Children in Need

  • Providing rehabilitation and mental health counseling to children in their homes.
  • Assisting children in continuing their education in schools.
  • Connecting school dropouts to vocational training opportunities.
  • Offering a learning and recreation center for children in East Delhi.

Social Awareness & Sensitization

  • Organizing regular gender sensitization and natal family violence awareness activities in East Delhi.
  • Hosting annual events like CHAYAN & SAHAS in collaboration with like-minded organizations and survivors.
  • Building a network of parents supporting the right to choose in marriage and relationships.
  • Promoting understanding of inter-caste/religion relationships and advocating for gender-just partnerships.

Advocacy for policy and systemic change

  • Implementation of the Supreme Court’s directives in the Shakti Vahini vs. Union of India case.
  • Advocacy for amendments to the Special Marriage Act.
  • Campaign for the creation of a specific law against Honour-Based Crimes.
  • Simplification of marriage registration/solemnization processes under the Special Marriage Act.
  • Chayan: A consortium dedicated to promoting the right to choose.
  • Establishment of a forum for victims and survivors of Honour-Based Crimes.

RESOURCE CENTRE

  • Collecting both primary and secondary data related to honour killings, marriage dynamics, inter-caste marriage incentives, and survivor couples in shelters.
  • Gathering secondary data on cases of missing children and abductions.
  • Publishing SAHAS, an annual magazine that compiles real-life stories and experiences of survivors and like-minded individuals.
